The fire season was unreal this past summer in Idaho. We were a kindling box. It seemed like there were fires burning everywhere. This one hit a little too close to home.
Fire/smoke plume that could be seen from our front yard. Less than a mile away.
Ash was actually raining down. Kind of freaky.
The smoke did make some amazing sunsets though. Can't say the same about the air quality. We were at orange for weeks. Not just because of this fire, but also for the ones burning in the mountains north of us.
This was taken by the MHAB firefighters - just up the road from our house, by the interstate.
How close the fire got to structures. That's the hotel that my parents stayed out when they came out for Trent's baptism. The firefighters worked hard to make sure no structures were damaged.
Awesome picture. Again taken by the MHAB firefighters. A slurry drop. The plane buzzed past our house to do the drop. The kids thought it was awesome. I was a little panicked.
Least to say, it was a reminder to get our 72-hour kits updated and complete. The feeling of being unprepared isn't a good one.
